Il codice Fr. 2810 della Bibliothèque Nationale di Parigi è uno dei primi manoscritti illustrati del Milione di Marco Polo. Fu infatti commissionato da Giovanni Senza Paura, duca di Borgogna, ai primi del Quattrocento. Nelle sue miniature trova posto tutta la fantastica immagine che l’Europa tardo medievale aveva del lontano Oriente, popolata di mostri, animali fantastici, costumi sfarzosi, città fiabesche, mercanti e guerrieri, bizzarrie di ogni tipo. Nella ricorrenza del settimo centenario della morte di Marco Polo questo volume viene riproposto al grande pubblico in una nuova edizione, con un ampio corredo di immagini e particolari.

The Ms. Fr. 2810 in the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris is one of the earliest illustrated manuscripts of Marco Polo’s Il Milione. It was commissioned by John the Fearless, duke of Burgundy, at the beginning of the 15th century. In its illuminations we can see the range of fantastic images representing late medieval Europe’s idea of the Far East, populated by monsters, imaginary animals, magnificent costumes, fabled cities, merchants and warriors, and bizarre items of every sort. On the occasion of the 7th centenary of the death of Marco Polo this volume is offered to the general public
in a new edition, with an extensive and renewed set of images and details.
