Commissionato dal duca di Berry, questo manoscritto venne miniato in diverse successive campagne, ed è l’unico conosciuto nel quale figurano delle miniature di mano di Jan van Eyck. Attraverso il succedersi delle immagini si percepisce il profondo mutamento del gusto avvenuto fra il Tre e il Quattrocento nell’Europa del nord. . Even before it was finished, it was dismantled in three sections. One of these was lost in the fire at the Biblioteca Reale in Turin in 1904; of the other two, today one is in Turin and the other in Paris. Commissioned by the Duc de Berry, the manuscript was decorated in several successive phases, and it is the only one known to date containing miniatures by Jan van Eyck. As the images unfold on the pages, the reader can trace the profound changes in artistic taste which took place in northern Europe between the fourteenth and the fifteenth centuries.
